AMERICA SUCKS!

I've been feeling this way for so long now, but Kitty Litter's Blog really set me off today.

<Begin Vent>

Can you tell me what is so fucking great about "The Land of the Free"? Seriously???!!!

America is supposed to be the best country in the world, the place where the grass is always greener, a free country who treats it's people with respect and equality. How is it that families can be ripped apart like this? Two women who love each other, have children together, own a business and pay taxes up the ass I'm sure, are forced to be separated because one of the partners is from another country and can't get a VISA due to some stupid ass lawyer who fucked up the application at the last minute when it was so close to getting approved.

My heart goes out to this family and the countless other GLBT families who have no protections when it comes to immigration laws. What is so fucking good about this country? No I don't think America sucks just because it sees me and others like me as less than human, less than equal, second class citizens. That's just one of the many reasons that America sucks.

If it were possible for me right now, I'd move my entire family to Canada, or another country who values it's people, and supports diversity amongst them.

The health system in America is RIDICULOUS. HORRIBLE. Even people with full time jobs have trouble affording health care for their families, there are so many people in our "great" country who are "Working poor" who can't afford medicine or care when they are sick or injured. So many homeless. SO MANY HOMELESS. War veterans, our heroes, thousands upon thousands are stuck with no health care, no homes, no support. Why would anyone WANT to fight for this country knowing the country won't fight for them?

People die everyday waiting for an approval for care from insurance companies, or simply because they can't afford the coverage.

Did anyone see the movie SiCKO? Now while I know that there is alot that we didn't see in that movie, and that things in other countries aren't perfect either, it disgusts me to know that a mother could lose her child due to a high fever simply because the hospital she chose to go to wouldn't give her care because her insurance wasn't good there. That we have the technology in our nation to reattach limbs and fingers, but a person can be made to choose which limb or finger to reattatch based on the monetary value of it. That movie if anything was a definite eye opener for me. I researched the facts from the movie. Everything panned out to be true. I recommend every American watch that movie and stand up to fight for something better.

Something needs to be done to save this country of ours. Other countries think we're all a bunch of morons for electing Bush. Our dollar isn't worth shit anymore. So many other nations have taken a stand in favor of equality for all of it's citizens.

Until things change I am going to be one disgruntled American. Definitely not proud.

I am a tax payer. I deserve the right to marry the woman I love. Why does it have to be up to the states? Why do I have to settle for a civil union that does squat for us legally? Why can't someone up high make the call to treat all Americans equally? I don't understand how equal rights even has to be voted on, legalized.

What happened to the days of people banding together and marching on Washington to demand equality. When are we going to have another civil rights movement? A serious movement with millions of people uniting for a cause. We need a leader with a loud voice who will stand up and fight. I'm calling on all GLBT Americans in positions of power to get something started. If we all just sit around in our living rooms shaking our heads in disgust, that's not going to change anything.

Kitty Litter and family should not have to be ripped apart like thing. I'm so sorry that the US has been so unfair to you all. Hopefully you'll all be reuinited really soon in a place where you are seen as equals.

I'm so heart broken for their family.

Our country is a joke.

Yes. It sucks. But, one thing you have to think about - this is your country. It's easy to say, 'Let's leave,' but you shouldn't leave just because things aren't they way you want them to be.

Like water upon rocks, change takes time and persistence and work. It sucks for KL's family now. But one day, another family like hers will have the opportunity to stay together because regular folks like us stayed to fight the good fight.

It's not just the people with power who create change. The very fact that you are an out, butch lesbian is doing something. We need to be visible. This is something every queer person can do.

Wear that tie with pride, sister. Because when you do, you put a human face on our struggle for equality.
